Named Towel Hooks

Tweet This
When I was growing up my mother had a different colored towel for each kid.
She had hooks on the back of the bathroom door
for us to hang it up to dry after we took a bath.
That way we could use our own towel more than once and it cut down on laundry.

I have forgotten about that but this post,
reminded me.

And now looking back I can see that it was a great idea! I think these towel tags are so cute and it would go nicely with the idea my mom did.

I wish I had a green thumb!

Tweet This
This year I am going to plant a garden! I've tried before and have failed.
I'm a plant killer!

The sprinklers weren't working and I didn't have a long enough hose so I had to manually water it with  heavy buckets. That was no fun. And I only lasted a week.

But this year we fixed the sprinklers and got a better hose so now no more excuses! So I will try again.

I'm new at this. So for starters I decided to do potted herbs.
Hopefully I won't kill these.

To make it fun , and to match my kitchen, I found these bright colored pots.

Then labeled them with vinyl. (I'm on a labeling kick right now).

I just planted the herbs (and grape tomatoes)  that
I use most often in my cooking.

Then set them in my window.

Hopefully they'll live long enough for me to enjoy!

Oh and here is more cute potted herbs by Jen at Scissors and Spatulas.

The idea inspired me so I just had to share.

My HUGE Coupon Binder

Tweet This
There are so many different ways to organize coupons.
There's the baseball card binder method, envelope methodaccordian file method, and the file method. I've tried some of these and all have their pros and cons

For me I've found that I hate cutting all the individual coupons.
Just thinking about it gives me a cramp in my wrist.

The latest method I'm doing is a binder/file method with a few of my own modifications.

1) First you need a large binder. Like this one here.

This one is mine.

It's about 4 inches wide.

One day I got lucky and found it at the DI for only $3.00!

2) Every Sunday I get 5 newspapers.
When I get my coupons I rip them apart at the spine so each page can be separated.
Then I lay them out in piles and sort the same pages together.

3) Then I stick them in sheet protectors by month and week.
This way I can see the front and back of every page.

Month Tab

Week  Tabs (erasable)

I used to date and staple the same pages together,
but now I use binder tab dividers for each month and week.
Since the dates of the week change from year to year  I got tabs that are erasable.
For the months I used regular colored tabs since they don't change.

This binder has two sets of rings which makes it easier to go through.
I added a pouch to hold some pens, scissors, sticky notes (I use those when I price match at the store), a calculator and a few loose coupons.
I also use a small accordian file for loose coupons that I get in the mail etc.

4) When I need a coupon I just take out the set and cut what I need at the store.

There have been many times I would previously cut them all out at home
just to find that the store's out of stock. So then I have to go back home with a mess of coupons.
Now no more thanks to this method!

And I have all the coupons with me so I'm ready
when I unexpectedly run into a great deal.

To help me find a single coupon I use the Coupon List (you can print it out, or I use my phone when I'm at the store) from the Pinching Your Pennies website. But I usually print out a
grocery list with the deals and coupons listed from their state forums.

Not one method is right or wrong
but so far this method has worked great for me.

Crayon Organizer

Tweet This
What a cute way to store and organize crayons! Not only is it fun way for little ones to learn colors, but because sometimes crayon boxes are just not sturdy enough.

Decor-ganizing Tip: Keeping the top of cupboards clean

Tweet This
I know this is a place no one sees,
but sometimes things like this just makes you feel better when it's clean.
My cupboards tend to get pretty gross up there,
especially by the stove.

Laurieann from Motivates for Sanity's Sake has a great tip  for keeping up there clean by using wax paper. She also gives so many other great cleaning tips too!

I just wanted to post this because this Laptop Case is so stinking cute!
(Can you tell that I'm drawn to yellows and grays)?
And the case I have for mine is ugly and boring.

Chare from Crap I've Made shows you how to make it.

Ok it's time to finally break the ice and get myself out there a little bit!
(Taking in a deep slow breath).

I wanted to wait to have some posts before I linked up to anyone's blog. Hopefully this will help start some traffic here!

My Cleaning Schedule

Tweet This
I told you I'd explain my cleaning schedule from the chart I made.

This really helps me stay focused on what needs to be done.

Sometimes I have a habit of letting things get real messy. And right before it gets real bad I jump into deep cleaning mode. By then the mess takes
forever to clean.

When this happens I think, "Blah! This is taking so long (and it's so gross)!"  I really need to be better at maintaining so I don't have to keep doing this.

Luckily I ran across this blog called Organizing Made Fun by Becky. She does these posts called How to have a "Fake" Immaculate House. She shares on how to keep your house super clean for only
 15 minutes a day!
I can defiantly handle 15 minutes, then I can move onto the fun stuff, like crafting,
and spending more time with my family.

So here is my schedule broken down:
The first part of the chart explained:
(the row right beneath the title)

Mon-Fri: Quick Tidy the house

This means no deep cleaning yet.
Just make beds, hang up clothes, put things away as you pass by etc.

Mon-Fri: 1 load of laundry a day

I HATE having a "laundry day." So now I do one load everyday on weekdays. That means washed, dried, folded and put away before I start a new load.

I usually fold while watching some TV. And won't start a new load until the previous load is done.
Doing laundry this way has made it so much easier. I'm surprised how caught up I am.

("Caught up" to me means no overflowing dirty laundry baskets ;)  ).

Some days I'm LOOKING for something to wash since I'm so caught up!
(Like I recently I washed my curtains in my front windows)

Everyday:1 load of dishes

This is more of a maintaining method throughout the day.

After dinner tidy the kitchen and start the dishwasher.
The next morning unload dishes and reload the dirty dishes from breakfast and lunch. By dinner time we've dirty enough dishes for a full load.

And the cycle repeats.

It's nice because it keeps my sink from getting a pile up. This works for my little family now but it may be harder if you have more people in your home.

The next part is Basic Cleaning:
(15-20 minutes a day)

Mondays: Tidy Whole House

I don't like to clean Saturdays or Sundays so then by Monday my house has gotten pretty cluttery.

This day I just put things away throughout the whole house. If I see something that needs more attention I'll put it on my chart for another day. If I have more time I'll find something that needs to be organized.

Tuesdays: Bathrooms

Just basic cleaning of sinks, mirrors and toilets.

Wednesdays:Coupons and Grocery Shopping

I'm a coupon clipping junkie and I try to plan my meals. So this day I focus on those things and then go Grocery Shopping.

Thursdays: Dust and Wipe Downs

Dust Furniture that needs it and basic wiping in kitchen and spot cleaning other places that also need it.

Fridays: Floors

A quick vacuum and sweep. And a "spot mop" clean if needed.
Saturdays:Yard work and and house projects

Sunday: Not even listed because It's a day of rest

The next part is Deep Cleaning Schedule:
(Depending on the job, and my motivation, this should take an additional
 15-30 minutes)

So along with the Basic Cleaning Schedule I'll do one thing that needs more attention a day.
For example: Wednesday is coupon/meal day. Along with that I'll deep clean the refrigerator,
or organize my coupon binder.

Another example: Friday is floor day. Mop the kitchen floor instead of just spot clean it, or shampoo a lurking stain in the carpets.

The last part is Future Deep Cleaning:

This is just a note to me of things I would like to work on in the future. Once the week is over I'll rewrite these things up into the new week.

That's it!
It was a lot to explain but once you start, and then keep maintaining it's
not so time consuming anymore!

This schedule really helps me
and eventually most things in
my home gets deep cleaned
within a 2-3 months time.

The BEST PART is how much things now get done, and stays done!

 For the most part ;)

Organizing those wet drippy bath toys

This is genius! You can store those bath toys after a bath and have them hang to dry at the same time!

Menu and Cleaning Chart

Tweet This
I started a cleaning schedule and planning my meals.

So I created a cute little chart.

(I need something to keep me on track. I tend to get sidetracked easy.
Especially when I'm cleaning.)

Menu Chart
Cleaning Chart

All I did was:
1) type up the schedules to follow on a word document

 2) place it in a frame (I used a 10x10in.)

3) back it with some scrapbook paper
4) display it where it will be seen often

Then there's just one more step.

5) write on the glass with a dry erase marker
the things to make for dinner
or to clean

Tada!

Easy right?

To make it even easier here's a copy of the charts I created.
(If you want to customize yours email me and I'll send you the word document).

(These are 8x8in.)

And if you're confused with my cleaning schedule
I'll do a post about it later this week ;).

Decor-ganizing Tip: Stinky Dirty Dish Rags

Tweet This
So I'm so guilty of having a few of these laying around.
And then using it again and again 'til they reak! I don't even want to know what little micro colonies are being established on them.

I heard a good tip from a sweet old lady I wanna try. She said she replaced all of her hand towels and dish rags to white ones. Then she'll wash and bleach them in hot water so they stay nice and white and sanitized.

Then to use a new fresh one everyday. (So you will want to get a bunch of them. I think you can get a huge pack from Sam's Club or Costco).

Well I'm off to find my old retired dish rags and then off to the store to get new white ones.

Curtain Shelf

Tweet This
WOW! A curtain shelf what a great idea
to display decorations!

Especially that adorable red door!

I so want to do this.... but my windows go up almost to the ceiling and it would be hard to fit things on it up there.

But one day when I do move into my dream home, I'll remember this and will definitely do it then.

Ashley from Achieving Domestic Bliss made this and she'll show you how, and lots of other nifty things too.

Diaper Changing Pad

Tweet This
Okay so this little changing pad is an adorable idea and very practical from Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew. She is such a talented seamstress with awsome quilt patterns she designed.

I can only dream to ever sew like her!

It holds 2-3 diapers and a small case of wipes. It can also hold a few other small items like ointment cream and a few little plastic baggys for those real stinky ones. I really should mention it's washable too.

Here's mine. I LOVE it and use all the time. It wasn't too hard to make, me being a somewhat beginner sewer, and it would make a perfect baby shower gift too!

It's perfect when you're out somewhere and you're afraid of the lurking germs on the changing station in a public restroom.

It also fits nicely in my favorite purse :) .
