Do you have a keepsake t-shirt you just can't get rid of?
It just stays in the very back of the closet
or tucked in a box somewhere?
You don't really have a real reason to keep it,
but you just can't let it go.
(I have plenty of little knick-knacks like this).
I've seen a few cute ways to use your keepsake t-shirts. A few ideas off the top of my head is a t-shirt quilt, display a special one in a frame, or even a little carrying bag.
(If you know of any others I'd love to hear them!)
For this project I made pillows out of t-shirts.
The story behind these is that my Mother-in-law has three sons that played sports in High School. Some of her favorite memories were of going to all their games.
It was a big deal for my husband's family growing up.
Now that they're all grown and moved out she has a few rooms to spare. Her dream is to redecorate a room with all her children's memorabilia and then
have her grandchildren stay in that room when they sleep over.
Then they can see the fun things
their parents did when they were young.
She's an amazing (and busy) lady. So I've been helping her out on this project. I made these for her for Mother's Day. They'll go on the bed.
Now I'm not much of a sewer, but these are pretty simple.
1) Supplies: A t-shirt and pillow (I using the stuffing from an old one).
2) Turn shirt inside out.
3) If using old pillow you can cut it out of it's old casing.
4) Measure pillow to t-shirt (add an inch for seam allowance).
5) Cut t-shirt to what you measured
6) Sew 3 sides together leaving a small hole on the 4th side
7) Stuff with pillow stuffing then sew back up (I hand stitched mine up).
You're done!

So cute! I love the pillow idea with the t-shirts. I actually did a review for a T-shirt quilt. I threw her for a loop when I asked if I could use things other than t-shirts. I added in part of my wedding dress (and she also made me a pillow and Christmas stockings for myself and my step daughter out of some of the wedding dress fabric) the first dress I bought for my then 3 year old step daughter, football jerseys etc...

This is such a neat idea and much needed since my Mom just threatened a bunch of my Dad's old Harley T-shirts with a one way trip to the thrift store. I found you on My Whims Wednesday and am a new follower!!! Can't wait to see what else you come up with!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to do something like this for a long time. Thanks for sharing! I would love for you to link up on Thursday!

This is a great idea and I will have to do this. I have seen other ways like no sew t-shirt pillows. They are easy for people who don't sew. This post is speaking to me. I am a t-shirt aholic and I never throw one away. I love them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

I'v seen people at my school do this with their sweatshirts! so fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking this up to Your Whims Wednesday too!
That came out great. I did the same thing a few years ago with a hockey jersey my son had. It's a nice way to personalize pillows. Thanks for sharing at my Swing into Spring party.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea! I may just have to scrounge up a few old high school t-shirts for sibling birthday gifts.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! My husband and I have a few of these laying around. He has old jerseys this would work for too. Thanks for linking up with DIY under $5!
ReplyDeleteThese came out great-I think they would be great decor for a teenage boy's room, or even the "Man Cave" my husband plans on building some day. But that will be more "Harley" t-shirts
ReplyDeleteCute pillows and a great idea. I think you must live close to me (because of the Northridge Knights). Thanks for linking to Home Decor and Organizing Link Party.

How cute!! I have tons of baseball t-shirts we could use to make those pillows! BTW, your post caught my eye on Pinterest because I actually grew up near Northridge, my brother was a Layton Lancer. :)
