My HUGE Coupon Binder

Tweet This
There are so many different ways to organize coupons.
There's the baseball card binder method, envelope methodaccordian file method, and the file method. I've tried some of these and all have their pros and cons

For me I've found that I hate cutting all the individual coupons.
Just thinking about it gives me a cramp in my wrist.

The latest method I'm doing is a binder/file method with a few of my own modifications.

1) First you need a large binder. Like this one here.

This one is mine.

It's about 4 inches wide.

One day I got lucky and found it at the DI for only $3.00!

2) Every Sunday I get 5 newspapers.
When I get my coupons I rip them apart at the spine so each page can be separated.
Then I lay them out in piles and sort the same pages together.

3) Then I stick them in sheet protectors by month and week.
This way I can see the front and back of every page.

Month Tab

Week  Tabs (erasable)

I used to date and staple the same pages together,
but now I use binder tab dividers for each month and week.
Since the dates of the week change from year to year  I got tabs that are erasable.
For the months I used regular colored tabs since they don't change.

This binder has two sets of rings which makes it easier to go through.
I added a pouch to hold some pens, scissors, sticky notes (I use those when I price match at the store), a calculator and a few loose coupons.
I also use a small accordian file for loose coupons that I get in the mail etc.

4) When I need a coupon I just take out the set and cut what I need at the store.

There have been many times I would previously cut them all out at home
just to find that the store's out of stock. So then I have to go back home with a mess of coupons.
Now no more thanks to this method!

And I have all the coupons with me so I'm ready
when I unexpectedly run into a great deal.

To help me find a single coupon I use the Coupon List (you can print it out, or I use my phone when I'm at the store) from the Pinching Your Pennies website. But I usually print out a
grocery list with the deals and coupons listed from their state forums.

Not one method is right or wrong
but so far this method has worked great for me.

  2. That sounds like a good system. I tried to do the couponing like a year ago. Made a nice binder, but I broke down all the coupons and had to put them in the separate pockets (baseball card holders). It was time consuming... and I ended not doing it anymore b/c of that. I like how you just tear the pages and file them that way.
Thanks so much for linking this to my Organizing Mission Monday link party!

  3. Looks great! I prefer to clip mine and currently use 5 (!) accordian files (the small ones). I have been thinking about switching to the binder, I think I'd like it a lot better, I just havent wanted to spend the money on baseball card inserts, lol.

  4. I started couponing again because blogs make it so much easier to price match! Thanks for the tips on organizing a binder. I have most of the things already. I just wasn't sure how to organize everything for a trip to the store.

  9. Just found this post and love it! I've been couponing for a few months now but am currently using the "bring loose coupons in a messy pile" method. Needless to say, it's not working. This looks like a great way to stay organized! Thanks for the tips! :)
